Frequently Asked Questions

1.  Who is recognized at these ceremonies?

The University Day service award ceremonies recognize individuals who have served George Mason University and/or the Commonwealth of Virginia for 5 through 50 years of service.  Classified employees, administrative/professional faculty and instructional/research faculty are recognized.

2.  Can I bring my supervisor to the ceremony?

Yes, you are welcome to bring your supervisor or department head to your respective ceremony.  You will receive an email invitation with instructions on how to RSVP.

3.  What can I expect when I attend the ceremony?

Both Green and Gold days have their own unique personalities, but you can expect a full meal, music, and a program honoring you for your years of service.

3.  Do I receive anything for my years of service?

5 – 15 years of service – you will receive a Celebration Kit, which includes a certificate and pin.  The Celebration Kit will be mailed to each awardee, whether or not you attend the Ceremony. Please verify your personal information by September 30 to ensure your name and mailing address are correct.

20 – 50 years of service – you will receive a Celebration Kit, which includes a certificate with frame, a pin, and a catalog to choose a gift. The Celebration Kit will be mailed to each awardee, whether or not you attend the Ceremony. Please verify your personal information by September 30 to ensure your name and mailing address are correct.

4. How do I view my permanent address in Patriot Web??

Log in to Patriot Web.  Click on the Personal Information Tab.  Click on Personal Profile.  You can see the Permanent Address on that page.  If you want do not want your Celebration Kit mailed to that address, you must provide us with an alternate address here.

If you change your permanent address in Patriot Web, it will become your address of record for the University.

5.  How is eligibility for recognition at one of these events determined?

You must be a classified employee, administrative/professional faculty or instructional/research faculty who started with the Commonwealth of Virginia or Mason on the following dates:

  • 5 Years of Service- started between April 2, 2015 and June 30, 2016
  • 10 Years of Service started between April 2, 2010 and June 30, 2011
  • 15 Years of Service started between April 2, 2005 and June 20, 2006
  • 20 Years of Service started between April 2, 2000 and June 30, 2001
  • 25 Years of Service started between April 2, 1995 and June 30, 1996
  • 30 Years of Service started between April 2, 1990 and June 30, 1991
  • 35 Years of Service started between April 2, 1985 and June 30, 1986
  • 40 Years of Service started between April 2, 1980 and June 30, 1981
  • 45 Years of Service started between April 2, 1975 and June 30, 1976
  • 50 Years of Service started between April 2, 1970 and June 30, 1971
